Ecuador

¡Ecuador! A hidden gem that has not yet been discovered by many. It is very difficult to define Ecuador, as this South American country does not have only one big highlight, but so many little ones. And every day that you will travel to discover a bit more of the country you will find a new favourite spot. Maybe DIVERSITY is the word that best suits the country, as this country – small compared to its neighbours – contains snow-capped peaks and volcanic lakes in the Andean Mountains, an extense and lush green Amazon region, while the humpback whales pay a visit to its Pacific Coast every year and the Galapagos Islands contain a live-laboratory of evolution for you to experience.

It is a country that one can come back to time after time and continue to explore it – every time choosing a different focal point or take a less than 2-week sneak-peak along all the highlights, which can easily be done in such a short time due to its small size.

But the most amazing thing of Ecuador, is that it is a destination filled with Experiences! Talk to your Biulu Travel Creator to incorporate the experiences that you would like to have during your travels.

Andean Hightlands

Sta a few nights in one of the older haciendas that are spread among the Andean Highlands or Experience the daily life in an indigenous homestay. No matter which sleeping Experience you choose, you can experience local life by getting up early and milk the cow and collect the eggs for breakfast, to afterwards get ready for a horseback ride as a typical Andean Chagra Cowboy!

Pacific Coast

Only the drive already makes it worth to go from the highlands to the Ecuadorian Costa, as the lowlands and coastal area is locally called. While driving the majestic descend from over 3000 meters to sea level, one can make various stops and explore the different ecological regions such as the cloud forest – famous for the great variety of hummingbirds, the farms of cacao, coffee, and banana or maybe a small de-tour to a community that can only be reach by the final train ride. When you arrive at the coast you can explore mangroves, eat the famous cangrejos (crab speciality) or from June until October see the giants of the sea – the humpback whales.

Help the World to get to know the giants of the oceans a bit better and participate a day with the investigation of the whales that visit the coast of Puerto Lopez every year between June and October to mate and give birth. Become an assistant-investigator aboard the boat going towards Isla de la Plata. Along the way you will see the giants jump out of the water and you will learn to photograph their tails which will help in the identification and sharing this information with an American foundation that tracks whale movement up and down the Pacific Coast of the American continent. While normal tourists disembark at the Isla de la Plata, you continue with the investigators sailing around the island to catalogue more information, including the singing of the whales underwater

Amazon Jungle Region

The Amazon, which by Ecuadorians is called El Oriente or La Selva, is a magical region filled with all tones of green, old tress, ancestral knowledge of plants and medicines, many animals and nocturnal sounds. It is a treasure of the world and a privilege to be able to explore a small part of it, which will most definitely leave you with an awe of the magic of nature.

Imagine going down the wide Napo river on a motorized canoa and stop on riverbank to cross over and get into a small paddle canoe carved out of Wood, to go a couple of hours further into the jungle of Yasuni National Park. Without the sound of the motor, suddenly, the sounds of the trees and its inhabitants become louder and louder and will be the only sounds you hear. Your first Experience in the jungle is one you never forget, and slowly your senses start to open, and you will start to distinguish the different shades of green and the jungle and its inhabitants start to show themselves to you.

We Create personalized Dream Trips

The concept of Biulu Travel was born out of the our own personal idea that knowledge and expertise necessary for creating amazing and personalized travel experiences and excellent in-country service should be independent and not linked in anyway to the height of the budget one can and is willing to spend on accommodation and such. How can it be that if you want the best legal advice you can pay a lawyer just for that, and know that it is independent – but in the travel business this is not the case. Sharing our knowledges, our first hand experiences, and most of all the love for the countries we live work and travel in, is what we love to do. Our initial base is Ecuador, where one of the founders of the company is located, with the intention to grow to other countries where we know there are like-minded people!

All of us working for Biulu also work or have worked for other operating agencies and are happy that we can now share our knowledge and service directly with you, and not only to other operators!
